Heroic and inspirational book This is an amazing real-life story about challenging adversity and living one's life to the full. The author overcomes heart problems and battles cancer to climb mountains, tow a sled 400 miles to the North Pole & kayak across the English channel. This man's achievements are truly admirable and inspirational.

Filled with truths and insights, grit and humor, this book has it all. Roger brings us into the story of his life in a way that will stay with you for many years. You'll think if he can do it, I can! (bet you can't) There have been many adventurers in this world but how many have pulled a sled 400 miles from Northern Canada to the North Pole at the age of 61... a few months after a heart attack, or climbed Everest after being diagnosed with cancer (turned out to be a false alarm that time) and now having really had cancer and recovered, at 73, is going to kayak across the channel next month (August 21). If you want to meet a real superman, read this. And where he came from you wouldn't have given him a rat's chance in hell. These are just a few examples of Roger Davies' incredible achievements.

Inspirational account of a life transformed This is a brutally honest and candid account of a life spiraling out of control, plummeting the depths of despair and criminality and taking the author to death's door. The amazing transformation is both moving and inspirational. Roger's life has truly been well lived and he has become a loved and respected member of the world of adventurism and the wider community. Jaw dropping adventures allied to selfless acts of charity!

Wow! Inspiring - I couldn't put this Book down! Roger really has had a roller coaster of a life. What hope he shares that life is indeed what you make it. He's suffered abuse at school, near death experiences though violence and addiction and turned his life around completely! Great read, i'm off to find my adventure!!

Real life extreme adventure and the struggle with addiction If you have ever harboured ideas about doing something adventurous in the extreme and well beyond the normal comfort zone of ordinary folk (like me), then Roger's story will bring you down to earth with a bump. At the end of it, you will either be cured of such outrageous fantasies or be inspired to take it on. True life extreme adventure written by somebody who has done it and gained genuine insight on how to survive in extreme conditions, and really aware of both the physical and mental toughness and endurance needed to succeed both personally and as part of a team. His matter of fact descriptions of walking to the North Pole or playing rugby near the top of Mount Everest etc is mixed with his personal journey that drove him to such extremes as also a journey of personal redemption. A very readable read which will appeal as much to armchair psychologists as to those with adventurous aspirations. A great read. Inspire children and youths on how to avoid the attractions of the dark side of life. And if you are in a book club; it is guaranteed to generate great discussions.
